BRANDING: FROM HOLLOW RHETORICS TO GUIDELINE IN URBAN REVITALIZATION
Branding has become a widely used strategy for marketing urban communities. Often it is used as ‘communicative add-on’ to revitalization programs, to sell apartments that have been developed. Sometimes brands are merely hollow rhetoric. However branding can also be used in more sophisticated ways, whereby it helps to involve stakeholders in the process, and enhance urban revitalization. Jasper Eshuis (Erasmus University) will provide theoretical perspectives on the branding of places, and Susanne Volder (and-a.nl) will add and comment from her experiences with branding in different urban development projects in the city.
